We can all afford to save more money right?  But life has a way of nickle and diming you out of your hard earned cash.  So if you’re going to spend, spend smart.  Here are some tips and tricks to help you save a little more.

Credit Cards

Don’t use a credit card if it has no financial benefit, meaning rewards.  There is no point in using a card that doesn’t give you any type of reward for being a customer.  Instead, identify what rewards are given by different cards and how you can use them.  I’m not saying to open a bunch of cards just for rewards, but figure out if quarterly cash back on certain purchases suites you better or worse than a straight 1.5% cash back on all purchases.

Paying Debt

Pay weekly rather than monthly.  Especially with credit cards.  If you can chip away at it with smaller weekly payments it feels like less of a shock than a single large monthly payment.  Also take your highest interest credit card and pay that first.  You can always look into consolidation loans as well.  Just make sure the interest on the new loan is lower than the interest on the old loans.

Online Shopping

If you fill your shopping cart and leave it for a couple days / weeks, often times Amazon and other retailers will send you email discounts for those very items to encourage you to buy.

If you are making a large purchase, make it according to the seasons, remember Christmas lights are a lot cheaper after the holiday!

Create a junk email address and use that for all your online shopping offers.  Retailers will send you emails all the time, if you direct them to this one junk email address you can check it when you’re making a significant purchase to see if there is an offer for you.  But then you’re not bombarded daily with offers to buy.

Flights

Use google flights to compare flights.    Consider booking a 1 way ticket to your destination and then another one way ticket back, it can sometimes be cheaper.
